3 Helpful Hints When Asking For A Wedding Photography Proposal

So you’ve been in touch with a wedding photographer and they have now offered you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your spending limits. Congratulations! You should accept it straightaway, right? WRONG! You probably could have worked out a better price package if you had actually read this short article before asking for the quote.

Most people don’t comprehend what an estimate actually is on it’s most basic level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer is willing to exchange his/her efforts for. But, this quote represents more than the quantity you will have to pay for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) bring down the stated quote so that it more precisely represents your own idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may cause a photographer to increase the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of information
Photographers really can’t abide a lack of information when attempting to quote for a wedding. Usually, it is incredibly challenging for professional photographers to gather the correct level of detail when they are developing their quote. This is usually because clients supply the bare minimum of information when requesting a quote. Scenarios besides the quantity of time a photographer will be at the event matter considerably. For instance, if your wedding will be spread throughout multiple rooms a photographer will almost certainly require an assistant and your quote will show this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will be in a single room there might not be a requirement for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to providing the quote, you can guarantee that the quote you get shows the worst case situation (i.e. the extra cost for the assistant’s wage, insurance coverage, etc.).

2) Be realistic when estimating the number of hours you will need the photographer’s services
Most individuals overestimate the length of time they think that they’ll require a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you truly require the photographer for the complete wedding reception? How many different angles do you really require of the same guests drinking cocktails and eating? An hour or more of unneeded service can become rather expensive. Although, having said that, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate the length of time you will require the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest method to remove unnecessary expenses from your quote.

3) Be sincere about when you require the finished photos delivered
If you have elected photo retouching, do not demand that the photos be delivered by the next business day. If you require a couple of preliminary photos for thank you cards, Facebook or Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then request that when you are booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the day of the wedding or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unlikely. There is little doubt that the photographer will attempt to oblige your request; however in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing back other work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the best quote, request the preliminary photos that you really do need straightaway and (specify what these photos need to look like) and enable 7-10 business days for the remainder of the images to be delivered to you.

In summary, supply your photographer with as much detail at the first meeting as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the beginning, and always be honest with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these tips and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

By the 19th century, both these groups no longer existed. During these expeditions the Spanish explorers claimed the entire peninsula of Florida for the Spanish monarchy
