Three Tips When Asking For A Wedding Photography Quote

So you’ve called a wedding photographer and they have now given you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your budget. Congratulations! You should accept it straightaway, right? DEFINITELY NOT! You probably could have worked out a much better deal if you had actually read this short article earlier.

Most people do not understand what an estimate truly is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the target price the photographer is willing to exchange his/her efforts for. But, this quote represents more than the amount you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) bring down the stated quote so that it more precisely represents your idea of the value of the photographer’s time? Listed below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may encourage a photographer to increase the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of information
Photographers HATE a lack of information when trying to quote for a job. Most of the time, it is incredibly difficult for photographers to gather the correct level of information when they are building their quote. This is generally because customers provide the bare minimum of details when requesting a quote. Scenarios aside from the quantity of time a photographer will be at the occasion matter considerably. For example, if your wedding will be held throughout several rooms a photographer will probably require an assistant and your quote will show this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will remain in a single space there might not be a need for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to providing the quote, you can guarantee that the quote you receive shows the worst case situation (i.e. the extra expenditure for the assistant’s salary, insurance coverage, etc.).

2) Be reasonable when giving the amount of time you will need coverage
Most people overestimate the length of time they think they require a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you actually require the photographer for all 4 hours of the wedding reception? How many different angles do you actually require of the same people drinking cocktails and eating? An hour or more of unneeded service can end up being quite expensive. Although, having said that, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate the length of time you will need the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest method to remove unneeded costs from your quote.

3) Be truthful about when you need the finished images delivered
If you have actually elected photo enhancements, do not request that the images be delivered by the next business day. If you need a few preliminary photographs for thank you cards, Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then ask for that when you are booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the wedding day itself or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you require ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is rare. There is little doubt that the photographer will try to honor your request; however in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing off work comes at a premium and will be shown in your quote. For the best quote, ask for the preliminary photos that you really do require straightaway and (specify what these photographs have to contain) and enable 7-10 business days for the rest of the photos to be delivered to you.

So to summarize, provide your photographer with as much information when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the onset, and always be honest with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these tips and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

About Seville, Florida

Seville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Volusia County, Florida, United States, founded in 1882. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 614.[1]

William Kemble Lente, a vice president of the Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Railway, founded the town of Seville in 1882 along the railroad right of way. Taking advantage of the location, he set about to build a community. He founded the Bank of Seville and built a large brick residence for himself. Teaming up with some northern investors, they started work on a grand hotel. Next the group built a complex water system costing $60,000. The relationship between Lente and his backers became strained and then bitter, and Lent took his own life at his Seville home in 1889. Today with limited commercial development and a largely rural/agricultural base, Seville is a quiet community just north of Pierson along U.S. Route 17.
