3 Helpful Tips When Asking For A Wedding Photography Proposal

So you’ve called a wedding photographer and they have now provided you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your spending limits. Congratulations! You should accept it immediately, right? WRONG! You probably could have worked out a much better price package if you had read this article earlier.

The majority of people don’t understand exactly what an estimate actually is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the target price the photographer is willing to exchange his/her time for. However, this quote represents more than the amount you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) reduce the amount of the quote so that it more accurately represents your own idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Listed below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may encourage a photographer to increase the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of information
Professional photographers really can’t abide missing information when attempting to quote for a wedding. Generally, it is very difficult for photographers to get the appropriate level of detail when they are building their quote. This is normally because customers offer the bare minimum of details when requesting a quote. Scenarios other than the quantity of time a photographer will be at the occasion matter greatly. For example, if your wedding will be held throughout numerous rooms a photographer will probably need an assistant and your quote will show this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will remain in a single space there might not be a need for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to releasing the quote, you can bet that the quote you receive reflects the worst case scenario (i.e. the additional expense for the assistant’s salary, insurance, etc.).

2) Be realistic when giving the number of hours you will need coverage
Most people overestimate the amount of time they think that they’ll need a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you actually need the photographer for the complete wedding reception? How many different angles do you truly need of the same guests drinking champagne and eating? An hour or two of unnecessary photographer’s time can become rather expensive. Although, having said that, it is always much better to overestimate than underestimate the amount of time you will need the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest way to cut unnecessary costs from your quote.

3) Be truthful about when you need the final photos delivered
If you have elected photo enhancements, don’t demand that the photographs be completed by the next business day. If you require a few initial photos for thank you cards, Facebook, etc. immediately after the wedding, then ask for that at the time of booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the wedding day itself or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unusual. There is little doubt that the photographer will attempt to oblige your demand; but in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing off work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the best quote, ask for the preliminary photographs that you really do need almost immediately and (specify what these images have to contain) and enable 7-10 business days for the rest of the photographs to be delivered to you.

In summary, provide your photographer with as much detail when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the beginning, and always be sincere with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these tips and you’ll be cutting those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

About Rotonda West, Florida

Rotonda West is an unincorporated, deed-restricted community situated in west Charlotte County, Florida, United States. The U.S. Census Bureau lists it as the Rotonda census-designated place, with a population of 8,759 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Punta Gorda Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was developed and named Rotonda West by Cavanagh Communities Corporation, the developers of a projected but now defunct community named Rotonda in southern Martin County and northern Palm Beach County.[2] Though the layout of Rotonda West precisely mimics World War II airfields in Florida [3] there was not a similar airport at this location prior to development.
