3 Tips When Asking For A Wedding Photography Proposal

So you’ve contacted a wedding photographer and they have offered you a quote for your wedding photographs that is within your budget. Congratulations! You should accept it immediately, right? WRONG! You probably could have negotiated a much better deal if you had read this article before asking for the proposal.

The majority of people don’t comprehend exactly what an estimate really is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer wants to exchange his/her time for. However, this quote represents more than the quantity you will have to pay for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) bring down the stated quote so that it more precisely represents your idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may cause a photographer to push up the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of information
Photographers really can’t abide missing information when trying to quote for a job. Usually, it is incredibly challenging for photographers to garner the proper level of detail when they are developing their quote. This is normally because customers offer the bare minimum of info when requesting a quote. Situations other than the amount of time a photographer will be at the occasion matter greatly. For example, if your wedding will be spread throughout numerous rooms a photographer will probably require an assistant and your quote will reflect this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will be in a single room there might not be a requirement for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to issuing the quote, you can bet that the quote you receive shows the worst case scenario (i.e. the extra expenditure for the assistant’s income, insurance coverage, etc.).

2) Be reasonable when giving the number of hours you will require coverage
Most people overstate the length of time they think they require a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you really need the photographer for the complete wedding reception? How many different angles do you truly require of the same people drinking champagne and eating? An hour or 2 of unnecessary photographer’s time can become rather costly. Although, having said that, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate the amount of time you will need the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest method to cut unnecessary expenses from your quote.

3) Be honest about when you require the final photos delivered
If you have actually elected photo editing, do not demand that the photographs be done by the next business day. If you require a couple of initial images for thank you cards, Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then request for that when you are booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the day of the wedding or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unlikely. There is little doubt that the photographer will try to oblige your request; however in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing back other work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the most cost-effective quote, ask for the initial photos that you really do require almost immediately and (specify what these images need to contain) and allow 7-10 business days for the rest of the images to be delivered to you.

So to summarize, provide your photographer with as much information when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the start, and always be truthful with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these suggestions and you’ll be slashing into those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

About Oviedo, Florida

Oviedo is a city in Seminole County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 33,342, representing an increase of 7,026 (26.7%) from the 26,316 counted in the 2000 Census.[6] It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Oviedo is known for its historic houses and buildings, as well as its population of chickens that roam the downtown area. Although the city has historically been rural, in recent years it has had an influx of new developments to support its rapid growth, due to its proximity to the University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Research Park. Several national publications have placed Oviedo on their nationally ranked lists as one of the best places to live in the US.[7]

In the late 1870s, individuals living a few miles south of Lake Jesup needed an easily accessible post office in the Florida back country. Andrew Aulin, an early settler and shop-owner, decided to file paperwork for a post office, and in his first site location report, needed a name that was different from any other post office in Florida.[10] Aulin liked having a Spanish name, “to go with the Spanish name of the state,” and decided to name his post office location Oviedo after the city of Oviedo in northern Spain (the capital city of the Principality of Asturias) and the University of Oviedo.[10] Some say he visited the University, while others say he just liked the sound of it, but most agree that he likely pronounced the name “Oh-vee-Ay-Doh” rather than the Americanized way of “Oh-VEE-doh”.[citation needed]
