3 Helpful Tips For When You Ask For A Wedding Photography Proposal

So you’ve contacted a wedding photographer and they have now offered you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your spending limits. Congratulations! You should accept it right away, right? WRONG! You probably could have negotiated a better price package if you had read this article earlier.

The majority of people don’t comprehend exactly what a price quote truly is on it’s most basic level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer wants to exchange his/her time for. But, this quote represents more than the amount you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the client) bring down the stated quote so that it more precisely represents your idea of the value of the photographer’s time? Below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may encourage a photographer to increase the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of information
Photographers HATE a lack of information when trying to quote for a job. Most of the time, it is extremely hard for photographers to garner the proper level of information when they are constructing their quote. This is normally due to the fact that clients supply the bare minimum of details when requesting a quote. Circumstances aside from the amount of time a photographer will be at the event matter greatly. For example, if your wedding will be held throughout numerous rooms a photographer will likely need an assistant and your quote will reflect this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will be in a single room there may not be a requirement for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to issuing the quote, you can guarantee that the quote you get shows the worst case circumstance (i.e. the extra cost for the assistant’s wage, insurance, and so on).

2) Be sensible when giving the number of hours you will require the photographer’s services
Most people overstate the amount of time they think that they’ll need a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you truly require the photographer for all 3 hours of the wedding reception? How many angles do you really require of the same people drinking cocktails and eating? An hour or more of unneeded service can become rather expensive. Although, having said that, it is always much better to overestimate than underestimate the amount of time you will require the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest way to remove unnecessary costs from your quote.

3) Be sincere about when you require the completed photos delivered
If you have actually chosen photo editing, don’t demand that the images be delivered by the next business day. If you need a couple of preliminary photographs for thank you cards, social media, etc. after the wedding, then request for that at the time of booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the day of the wedding or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unusual. There is little doubt that the photographer will try to oblige your request; but in order to do so, they will have to push off other work. Pushing off work comes at a premium and will be shown in your quote. For the best quote, ask for the preliminary photographs that you really do require straightaway and (specify what these photographs need to look like) and permit 7-10 business days for the remainder of the photographs to be delivered to you.

So to summarize, provide your photographer with as much information when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the onset, and always be sincere with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these pointers and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

About Navarre, Florida

Navarre[3] is a Census-designated place and unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County in the northwest Florida Panhandle. It is a bedroom community for mostly U.S. Military personnel, Federal Civil Servants, local population, retirees and defense contractors. Due to its proximity to Navarre Beach and its four miles of beach front on the Gulf of Mexico, not including the Navarre Beach Marine Park, as well as the Gulf Islands National Seashore, it has a small, but growing community of nature enthusiasts and tourists.[4]

Navarre is about 25 miles east of Pensacola and about 15 miles west of Fort Walton Beach. The community is roughly centered on the junction of U.S. Route 98 and State Road 87.[5] It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Brent Metropolitan Statistical Area (more commonly referred to as the Pensacola Metro Area), and is the second largest community in the metropolitan area, according to a 2014 study. Navarre is part of the Fort Walton Beach-Navarre-Wright Urbanized Area. It is known for the natural environment, swimming, picnic spots, and county park which is located on the Gulf of Mexico.[4]
