3 Helpful Hints For When You Ask For A Wedding Photography Proposal

So you’ve called a wedding photographer and they have now provided you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your budget. Congratulations! You should accept it immediately, right? DEFINITELY NOT! You probably could have worked out a much better deal if you had read this short article before asking for the proposal.

The majority of people don’t understand exactly what a price quote really is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer wants to exchange his/her efforts for. But, this quote represents more than the quantity you will need to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the client) bring down the amount of the quote so that it more accurately represents your idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Listed below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may cause a photographer to push up the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of details
Photographers HATE missing information when trying to quote for a wedding. Most of the time, it is extremely difficult for photographers to garner the appropriate level of detail when they are building their quote. This is normally because clients offer the bare minimum of info when requesting a quote. Scenarios other than the quantity of time a photographer will be at the event matter significantly. For instance, if your wedding will be spread throughout numerous rooms a photographer will probably require an assistant and your quote will reflect this added expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will remain in a single room there may not be a requirement for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to providing the quote, you can guarantee that the quote you receive reflects the worst case scenario (i.e. the additional cost for the assistant’s income, insurance, etc.).

2) Be realistic when giving the number of hours you will require coverage
Most individuals overstate the amount of time they think that they’ll need a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you truly require the photographer for the complete wedding reception? How many angles do you actually need of the same people drinking champagne and eating? An hour or 2 of unneeded photographer’s time can end up being quite costly. Although, having said that, it is always much better to overestimate than underestimate the amount of time you will require the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest way to cut unneeded costs from your quote.

3) Be honest about when you need the completed photos delivered
If you have actually elected photo retouching, do not request that the photographs be done by the next business day. If you require a couple of preliminary photographs for thank you cards, Facebook or Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then request for that when you are booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the day of the wedding or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you require ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unlikely. There is little doubt that the photographer will attempt to oblige your demand; however in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing off work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the best quote, request the initial photographs that you really do need almost immediately and (be specific about exactly what these photographs have to look like) and permit 7-10 business days for the remainder of the images to be delivered to you.

So to summarize, provide your photographer with as much information at the first meeting as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the start, and always be sincere with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these pointers and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.
