3 Helpful Hints For When You Ask For A Wedding Photography Quote

So you’ve been in touch with a wedding photographer and they have offered you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your spending limits. Congratulations! You should accept it right away, right? DEFINITELY NOT! You probably could have negotiated a much better price package if you had read this short article earlier.

Most people do not comprehend exactly what an estimate truly is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer is willing to exchange his/her time for. However, this quote represents more than the quantity you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the client) bring down the amount of the quote so that it more properly represents your own idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Listed below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may encourage a photographer to inflate the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Missing information
Professional photographers really can’t abide missing information when attempting to quote for a wedding. Typically, it is exceptionally hard for photographers to gather the proper level of info when they are developing their quote. This is generally because customers offer the bare minimum of details when requesting a quote. Scenarios aside from the quantity of time a photographer will be at the event matter significantly. For example, if your wedding will be held throughout multiple rooms a photographer will almost certainly need an assistant and your quote will show this added expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will be in a single space there may not be a need for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to providing the quote, you can bet that the quote you receive shows the worst case circumstance (i.e. the extra expense for the assistant’s income, insurance, etc.).

2) Be sensible when giving the number of hours you will require coverage
Most individuals overestimate the length of time they think that they’ll need a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you actually require the photographer for all 5 hours of the wedding reception? How many angles do you really need of the same people drinking champagne and eating? An hour or 2 of unneeded photographer’s time can end up being quite expensive. Although, having said that, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate the amount of time you will need the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest method to cut unneeded costs from your quote.

3) Be sincere about when you need the final photos delivered
If you have actually elected photo enhancements, do not demand that the images be done by the next business day. If you need a couple of initial photographs for thank you cards, Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then ask for that at the time of booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the wedding day itself or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unusual. There is little doubt that the photographer will try to oblige your demand; however in order to do so, they will need to push off other work. Pushing back work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the best quote, request the preliminary images that you really do require almost immediately and (be specific about what these photographs need to look like) and allow 7-10 business days for the remainder of the images to be delivered.

In summary, supply your photographer with as much detail at the first meeting as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the onset, and always be sincere with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these pointers and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.
