Three Helpful Hints For When You Ask For A Wedding Photography Quote

So you’ve contacted a wedding photographer and they have provided you a quote for your wedding photographs that is within your spending limits. Congratulations! You should accept it right away, right? WRONG! You most likely could have worked out a better deal if you had actually read this short article before asking for the quote.

The majority of people do not understand exactly what a price quote actually is on it’s most fundamental level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the target price the photographer wants to exchange his/her efforts for. But, this quote represents more than the quantity you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) reduce the stated quote so that it more properly represents your idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may cause a photographer to push up the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Missing details
Professional photographers HATE a lack of information when attempting to quote for a job. Typically, it is incredibly hard for professional photographers to garner the appropriate level of detail when they are constructing their quote. This is usually because clients supply the bare minimum of details when asking for a quote. Circumstances besides the quantity of time a photographer will be at the occasion matter greatly. For example, if your wedding will be spread throughout numerous rooms a photographer will probably require an assistant and your quote will show this extra expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will remain in a single room there might not be a need for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to releasing the quote, you can bet that the quote you receive shows the worst case situation (i.e. the additional cost for the assistant’s wage, insurance, etc.).

2) Be sensible when giving the amount of time you will require the photographer’s services
Most engaged couples overestimate the amount of time they think that they’ll require a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you truly need the photographer for the complete wedding reception? How many different angles do you actually require of the same guests drinking champagne and eating? An hour or two of unneeded service can become rather expensive. Although, having said that, it is always much better to overestimate than underestimate the length of time you will need the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest method to cut unneeded expenses from your quote.

3) Be honest about when you require the final photos delivered
If you have actually chosen photo editing, don’t demand that the images be completed by the next business day. If you require a couple of initial photos for thank you cards, Instagram, etc. following the wedding, then ask for that when you are booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the wedding day itself or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is rare. There is little doubt that the photographer will try to oblige your request; however in order to do so, they will have to push off other work. Pushing back other work comes at a premium and will be shown in your quote. For the best quote, ask for the initial photos that you really do need straightaway and (be specific about what these photographs need to look like) and enable 7-10 business days for the remainder of the photos to be delivered.

In summary, supply your photographer with as much detail when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the start, and always be sincere with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these pointers and you’ll be bringing down those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.
