3 Tips For When You Ask For A Wedding Photography Quote

So you’ve called a wedding photographer and they have provided you a quote for your wedding photography that is within your budget. Congratulations! You should accept it immediately, right? DEFINITELY NOT! You most likely could have negotiated a much better price package if you had actually read this article before asking for the proposal.

The majority of people do not comprehend exactly what a price quote truly is on it’s most basic level. At the end of the day, this quote represents the amount of money the photographer wants to exchange his/her efforts for. But, this quote represents more than the amount you will have to pay out for the photographer’s time. Keeping this in mind, how can you (as the customer) bring down the amount of the quote so that it more properly represents your idea of the worth of the photographer’s time? Listed below are 3 considerations for you to keep in mind that may encourage a photographer to inflate the value of their time, and therefore increase the asking amount from you for their services.

1) Lack of details
Photographers HATE a lack of information when attempting to quote for a job. Most of the time, it is extremely difficult for photographers to garner the proper level of detail when they are building their quote. This is generally because clients supply the bare minimum of information when requesting a quote. Circumstances other than the quantity of time a photographer will be at the event matter significantly. For instance, if your wedding will be held throughout numerous rooms a photographer will likely require an assistant and your quote will show this added expense. On the other hand, if your wedding will remain in a single space there may not be a need for the assistant. If the photographer does not have this information prior to providing the quote, you can bet that the quote you get reflects the worst case circumstance (i.e. the extra expenditure for the assistant’s salary, insurance, and so on).

2) Be sensible when giving the number of hours you will need coverage
Most people overestimate the amount of time they think they require a photographer to be at the wedding. Do you actually require the photographer for all 3 hours of the wedding reception? How many different angles do you really require of the same people drinking cocktails and eating? An hour or more of unnecessary photographer’s time can end up being rather costly. Although, having said that, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate the length of time you will require the photographer on-site. Giving accurate hours is the fastest way to remove unnecessary expenses from your quote.

3) Be honest about when you require the completed images delivered
If you have elected photo enhancements, don’t demand that the photos be delivered by the next business day. If you require a couple of preliminary photographs for thank you cards, Instagram, etc. immediately after the wedding, then request that at the time of booking the photographer – don’t make this request on the wedding day itself or, even worse, during the reception. The chances that you need ALL of the photos finished within 72 hours is unlikely. There is little doubt that the photographer will attempt to honor your request; however in order to do so, they will have to push off other work. Pushing back work comes at a premium and will be reflected in your quote. For the most cost-effective quote, ask for the initial photographs that you really do need straightaway and (be specific about what these images have to look like) and enable 7-10 business days for the remainder of the images to be delivered to you.

In summary, supply your photographer with as much information when you first meet with the him/her as you possibly can, set clear expectations of your needs from the start, and always be honest with both your photographer and yourself. Follow these pointers and you’ll be cutting those over-inflated photography quotes in no time.

About Fleming Island, Florida

Fleming Island is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Clay County, Florida, United States.[1] It is located 21 miles (34 km) southwest of downtown Jacksonville, on the western side of the St. Johns River, off US 17. As of the 2010 census the Fleming Island CDP had a population of 27,126.[2] Fleming Island’s ZIP code became 32003 in 2004, giving it a different code from Orange Park, the incorporated town to the north.

Fleming Island was an area of Florida settled by Irish immigrant, George Fleming (1760-1821), who received a 1,000-acre land grant from the Spanish governor of East Florida for his military service.[3] George Fleming built a plantation in 1790 and it was named Hibernia Plantation (in what is now Hibernia, Florida), after the Latin word for Ireland.[3] When he died in 1821, the plantation was left to his son, Col. Lewis Michael Fleming (1798-1862).[3]
