Questions You Should Ask When Hiring a Sports Photographer

If the answer is no then I would advise you to stop right there and look for an alternative photographer. No need to continue the discussion. If you hire a relative or someone you know to take the photographs, and they trip and injure someone, who is going to cover for the medical bills. Remember in the United States people sue very quickly so you need to be protected.

If the answer is yes, then continue asking questions to find out how much coverage is afforded inside the insurance, what is and isn’t included in the policy, and who has to pay for any out of pocket expense that the insurance doesn’t cover?

Also ensure that you get a copy of the insurance prior to the event to to be sure the insurance policy really does exist and that it is still active.

You should know how long the applicant has been a sports photographer, where they carried out their photgraphy training and what certifications, if any that they have. Ask if they belong to any photographer associations and if they’ve ever won any photgraphy competitions. If the answer is yes, always ask to see proof.

Any good and reliable sports photographer should have no problem in providing you with references from previous clients. Be sure to call them and ask questions such as:

  • Was the photographer a pleasure to work with?
  • What were the final shots like? Were you satisfied?
  • Would you hire this same photographer again?

Request to see samples of their sports photography from different sporting events. This will give you a good sense of the depth of the photographer’s work and how good they are. Also, by viewing different events this will give you an idea of whether or not the photographer is consistently good…or just lucky every now and then.

By having could possibly make the shoot run more smoothly. Two heads are better than one, right? An assistant or second photographer could mean have the same pictures taken from different angles and therefore displaying different effects. Also, there will be a a bit of insurance that they will not miss shots should the equipment of the first photographer break down.

It is important that you establish exactly what it is that you are getting for your money before you sign any contracts. How long will the photographer remain at the event? Exactly how many photos will be delivered? How will you receive the proofs to choose from? Will there be post-production editing of images to remove any blemishes? Wiil the package you choose include albums or framed photographs?

Also, ensure that you ask how long you have to decide which images you would like delivered after seeing the proofs, and how long does it take to receive the final delivery?

It’s really important to ask all these questions and don’t make assumptions. Then you can avoid disappointment and arguments because your expectations haven’t been met.

More About Homestead, Florida

Homestead is a city within Miami-Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida, between Biscayne National Park to the east and Everglades National Park to the west. Homestead is primarily a Miami suburb and a major agricultural area. It is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census.

Homestead was incorporated in 1913 and is the second oldest city in Miami-Dade County next to the city of Miami. It is located approximately 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Miami, and 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Key Largo. The name originates from when the Florida East Coast Railway extension to Key West was being built. The rail line was passing through an area opened up for homesteading, and as the construction camp at the end of the line did not have a particular name, construction materials and supplies for the workers were consigned to “Homestead Country”, shortened to “Homestead” by the engineers who mapped the area.[5] The population was 60,512 at the 2010 census. Homestead and neighboring South Miami-Dade County communities bore the brunt of Category 5 Hurricane Andrew on August 24, 1992.
