A Few Questions To Ask When Hiring a Sports Photographer

If the photographer answers is no then stop right there. No need to continue the conversation. If you hire a friend or aquaintance to take the photographs, and they cause an accident, who is going to pay for the medical expenses. Keep in mind in the USA people sue very quickly so you need to be protected.

If the answer is yes, then keep questioning to find out how much coverage is afforded inside the insurance, what is and isn’t included in the policy, and who has to pay for any out of pocket expense that the insurance doesn’t cover?

Also make sure you get a copy of the insurance before the event just to be sure the insurance really does exist and that it is still active.

You will need to know how long the person has been doing sports photography, where they did their photographic training and what qualifications, if any that they have. Do they belong to any photographer associations or if they’ve ever won any photographic competitions. If the answer is yes, always ask to see evidence.

A good and reliable sports photographer will have no problem in offering references from previous clients. Make sure you call them and ask questions such as:

  • Was he/she a pleasure to work with?
  • What were the final shots like? Were you satisfied?
  • Would you employ him/her again?

Request to look at samples of their sports photography from different sporting events. This shouldl give you a good idea of the depth of the photographer’s work and how good they really are. Also, by looking at different events you will get a good idea of whether or not the photographer is consistently good…or just lucky every now and then.

By having could possibly make the shoot run more smoothly. Two heads are better than one, and all that! An assistant or second photographer will also mean have the same pictures taken from different angles and therefore displaying different effects. Finally, there will be a a little insurance of not missing shots should the equipment of the first photographer break down.

It is very important to establish exactly what it is that you are getting for your money before you sign any contracts. How much time will the photographer be at the event? How many images will you get? How will the proofs be delivered? Will there be post-production editing of images so any blemishes can be removed? Does the package include albums or framed photographs?

Also, make sure that you ask how long you have to decide which photos you would like delivered after seeing the proofs, and how long it takes to get the final photographs?

Seriously, it’s really important to ask all these questions and don’t make assumptions. That way you can avoid disappointment and arguments because your expectations haven’t been met.

More About Cedar Key, Florida

Cedar Key is a city in Levy County, Florida, United States. The population was 702 at the 2010 census.[5] The Cedar Keys are a cluster of islands near the mainland. Most of the developed area of the city has been on Way Key since the end of the 19th century. The Cedar Keys are named for the eastern red cedar, Juniperus virginiana, once abundant in the area.[6]

While evidence suggests human occupation as far back as 500 BC, the first maps of the area date to 1542, when it was labeled “Las Islas Sabines” by a Spanish cartographer.[citation needed] An archaeological dig at Shell Mound, 9 miles (14 km) north of Cedar Key, found artifacts dating back to 500 BC in the top 10 feet (3.0 m) of the 28-foot-tall (8.5 m) mound. The only ancient burial found in Cedar Key was a 2,000-year-old skeleton found in 1999.[7] Arrow heads and spear points dating from the Paleo period (12,000 years old) were collected by Cedar Key historian St. Clair Whitman and are displayed at the Cedar Key Museum State Park.
