Questions You Should Ask When You Are Considering Hiring a Sports Photographer

If the photographer answers is no then I would advise you to stop right there and look for an alternative photographer. No need to continue the discussion. If you employ a friend or aquaintance to carry out the task, and they trip and injure someone, who is going to cover for the medical bills. Remember in the USA people sue very quickly so you need to be protected.

If the answer is yes, then continue questioning to see how much coverage the insurance carries, what does and doesn’t it cover, and who has to pay for any out of pocket expense that the insurance doesn’t cover?

Also make sure you get a copy of the insurance before the event to to be sure the insurance really does exist and that it is still current.

You should know how long the applicant has been doing sports photography, where they carried out their photographic training and what qualifications, if any do they have. Ask if they belong to any photographer associations or if they’ve ever won any photographic competitions. If the answer is yes, always ask to see proof.

A confidant and reliable sports photographer will have no problem in offering references from previous customers. Make sure you call them and ask questions such as:

  • Was he/she easy to work with?
  • What were the final shots like? Were you satisfied?
  • Would you employ this same photographer again?

Request to look at samples of their work from different events. This will give you a good sense of the depth of the photographer’s work and how good they are. In addition, by checking out different events you will get a good idea of whether or not the photographer is consistently good…or just lucky every once in a while.

Having an assistant or second photographer could possibly make the shoot run more smoothly. Two heads are better than one, right? An assistant or second photographer could mean have the same pictures taken from different angles and therefore displaying different effects. Finally, there will be a a little insurance that they will not miss shots if the equipment of the first photographer breaks down.

It is vital to establish exactly what you’re getting for your money before you hire the sports photographer. How much time will the photographer be at the sporting event? How many photographs will you get? How will the proofs be delivered? Will the photographer do any post-production editing of photos to remove any blemishes? Does the package include albums or framed photographs?

In addition, make sure you ask how long you have to decide which images you would like delivered after seeing the proofs, and how long does it take to get the final photographs?

Seriously, it’s really important to ask all these questions and don’t just assume. That way you can avoid disappointment and arguments because your expectations haven’t been met.

More About Cape Canaveral, Florida

Cape Canaveral is a city in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 United States Census.[4] It is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

After the establishment of a lighthouse in 1848,[8] a few families moved into the area and a small but stable settlement was born. As the threat of Seminole Indian attacks became increasingly unlikely, other settlers began to move into the area around the Indian River. Post offices
and small community stores with postal facilities were established at Canaveral, Canaveral Harbor and Artesia. It is thought the Artesia post office was so named for the ground water of artesian springs that are prevalent in the
area.
