Questions You Should Ask When Hiring a Sports Photographer

If the answer is no then I would advise you to stop right there and look for an alternative photographer. No need to continue the conversation. Should you employ a relative or someone you know to carry out the task, and they have an accident, who is going to pay for the medical expenses. Keep in mind in the United States people sue very quickly so you need to protect yourself.

If the answer is yes, then continue questioning to see how much coverage is afforded inside the insurance, what is and isn’t included in the policy, and who is liable for any out of pocket expense that aren’t covered?

Also ensure that you get a copy of the insurance before the event to to be sure the insurance policy really does exist and that it is still current.

You should know how long the person has been a sports photographer, where they carried out their photographic training and what certifications, if any that they have. Do they belong to any photographer associations and if they’ve ever won any photgraphy competitions. If the answer is yes, always ask to see evidence.

Any reputable and reliable sports photographer should have no problem in providing you with references from previous customers. Make sure you call them and get their take on the photographer. Ask questions such as:

  • Was the photographer a pleasure to work with?
  • What were the final shots like? Were you happy?
  • Would you employ this same photographer again?

Ask to look at samples of their work from different events. This shouldl give you a good sense of the depth of the photographer’s work and how good they really are. Also, by checking out different events this will give you an idea of whether or not the photographer is always good…or just lucky every once in a while.

Having an assistant or second photographer could help to make the shoot run more smoothly. Two heads are better than one, and all that! An assistant or second photographer could mean have the same pictures taken from different angles and therefore showing different effects. Also, there will be a little bit of insurance of not missing shots should the equipment of the first photographer break down.

It is vital that you establish exactly what you’re getting for your money before you sign any contracts. How long will the photographer remain at the event? How many photos will you get? How will you receive the proofs? Will the photographer carry out any post-production editing of photographs so any blemishes can be removed? Does the package that you choose include albums or framed photographs?

Also, ensure that you ask how long you have to decide which images you would like delivered after seeing the proofs, and how long it takes to receive the final photographs?

Seriously, it’s vital that you ask these questions and don’t make assumptions. Doing this means that you can avoid disappointment and arguments because your expectations weren’t met.

More About Apopka, Florida

Apopka is a city in Orange County, Florida. The city’s population was 41,542 at the 2010 census,[6] up from 26,969 at the 2000 U.S. Census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Apopka comes from Seminole word “Ahapopka” for “Potato eating place”.[7] Apopka is often referred to as the “Indoor Foliage Capital of the World”.[8]

The earliest known inhabitants of the Apopka area were the Acuera people, members of the Timucua confederation. They had disappeared by 1730, probably decimated by diseases brought to Florida by Spanish colonists.
