5 Reasons You Why You Ought to Consider Employing a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera equipment is relatively cheap, however amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a huge difference to the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography varies from portraits of domesticated animals (pet dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that aim to record the beauty of animals (think horse and equine photography) connecting in their natural or domestic environment.

Excellent pet photography seeks to show, creatively, the character of the creature being photographed. These shoots can be carried out in different locations, from studio to on-location. A lot of pet photographers have their own style and while some may shoot all sorts of animals, certain professional photographers prefer to specialize particular type of animals.

Here are 5 good reasons you cannot beat a working with a professional pet photographer.

1. You can’t substitute for knowledge and experience

Technological advancements have made top quality photography equipment far more budget friendly for amateur photographers, however amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers don’t just have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices required to get the perfect shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You can’t beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s character should shines through in the pictures that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers think about not only the personality of your pet but also his or her lifestyle.

3. It can’t get any easier

Let the professional crawl around on the yard – or jump in the swimming pool – while you relax, unwind, and view the action unfold. You might just grab a few pointers to improve your own pet shooting abilitiy.

4. You can’t beat the effectiveness

A professional pet photographer will have the know-how to get the best images in the least amount of time. They normally charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can join in the fun

Most professional pet photographers these days make every effort to catch the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued picture that will undoubtedly hang in a location of importance in your house for many years to come.

Tips on picking a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you really want to select someone who likes and is comfortable with your pet – someone who is allergic to cats, but enjoys dogs is not a good choice to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not imply your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Seek out a photographer who has experience shooting your type of pet, make them understand exactly what you’re trying to get in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Explore a photographer’s website to see their previous work, and after that interview them prior to making an appointment. Ask about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make sure you feel totally at ease with the photographer before booking the actual shoot. If you do not click with him or her, chances are your pet won’t either.

2. Determine the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your goals are for the photography session and what you plan to do with the photos. Communicating where and how you plan to use the photos can help your photographer get the shots that you are looking for and ensure that the final deliverables fulfill your expectations.

3. Scheduling the session

When shooting outdoors think about the comfort of your pet and aim to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – generally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer requires on the shoot, you also assist to lower the tension the photo shoot may trigger for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a favorite toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet photos will be delivered digitally. The pet photographer will usually let you preview the proofs so you can determine your preferred photographs and you for that reason do not end up paying for pictures that you do not want to keep. Be sure to ask if the photographs will be provided unedited, or will the photographer use software to do some post-production retouch work (where the photographer corrects lighting, color grades or eliminates blemishes, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography rates will need to be set based on the type of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and ability needed to get the shot for the customer. Factors that will figure out the cost will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental elements and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others might charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how it breaks down. And make sure to discuss how they wish to manage the photograph rights as buying complete rights to the images will add to the cost.

Try to find a special offer if you can. Professional pet photography can be expensive. If you have restricted funds, keep your eye out for seasonal special offers. Many professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to attract new customers; also certain times of year business might be slow for those both established and new pet photographers. Always keep quality in mind and do your research before putting down any money, no matter how good the deal might sound.
