5 Reasons You Why You Should Consider Employing a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera gear is relatively cheap, however amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a big difference in the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography varies from portraits of domesticated animals (pet dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that strive to record the beauty of animals (picture horse and equine photography) engaging in their natural or domestic environment.

Great pet photography aims to show, artistically, the character of the creature being photographed. These shoots can be held in various places, from studio to on-location. The majority of pet professional photographers have their own style and while some may shoot all sorts of animals, other professional photographers may specialize particular kinds of pets.

Here are five great reasons that you can’t beat a hiring a professional pet photographer.

1. You cannot substitute for knowledge and experience

Technological advancements have actually made top quality equipment a lot more budget friendly for amateur photographers, but amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers not only have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices needed to get the ideal shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You can’t beat the creativity of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s personality should shines through in the pictures that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers consider not only the character of your pet but also their lifestyle.

3. It can’t get any easier

Let the professional crawl around on the lawn – or jump in the pool – while you sit back, unwind, and watch the action unfold. You might also pick up a few tips to improve your own pet shooting abilitiy.

4. You can’t beat the efficiency

A professional pet photographer will have the know-how to get the very best images in the least amount of time. They generally charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can join in the fun

The majority of professional pet photographers nowadays make every effort to catch the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a cherished photo that will definitely hang in a location of importance in your house for years to come.

Tips on selecting a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you really want to select someone who likes and is comfortable with your pet – somebody who dislikes cats, but enjoys dogs is not a good option to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not suggest your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Look for a photographer who has experience shooting your type of pet, let them know what you’re searching for in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to look for experience and style compatibility.

Check out a photographer’s website to see their previous work, then interview him or her prior to making an appointment. Inquire about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make certain you feel comfortable with the photographer prior to scheduling the actual shoot. If you do not click with him or her, chances are your pet won’t either.

2. Choose the deliverables

Discuss prior to the shoot with your pet photographer on what your goals are for the photography session and exactly what you plan to do with the images. Communicating where and how you plan to use the images can help your photographer get the images that you are trying to achieve and guarantee that the final deliverables fulfill your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors think about the comfort of your pet and attempt to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – generally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer needs on the shoot, you also help to reduce the stress the photo shoot might cause for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a favorite toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography shoot

Most pet photos will be provided digitally. The pet photographer will usually let you preview the proofs so you can determine your favorite photographs and you for that reason do not wind up paying for photos that you do not want. Make certain to ask if the photographs will be provided unedited, or will the photographer use software to do some post-production retouch work (where the photographer fixes lighting, color grades or gets rid of blemishes, etc from the photos).

How much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography prices will need to be set based on the kind of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and ability required to get the shot for the client. Factors that will identify the rate will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental aspects and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others may charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how it breaks down. And be sure you discuss how they wish to manage the photograph rights as purchasing full rights to the images will add to the cost.

Try to find a deal if you can. Professional pet photography can be expensive. If you have restricted funds, keep your eye out for a discount. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and wish to draw in new clients; also specific times of year business may be sluggish for those both established and new pet photographers. However, always keep quality in mind and do your research before putting down any money, no matter how great the offer might sound.
