5 Reasons You Why You Should Consider Hiring a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera gear is relatively low in cost, however amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a big difference in the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography ranges from portraits of domesticated animals (pet dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that make every effort to record the appeal of animals (picture horse and equine photography) interacting in their natural or domestic environment.

Great pet photography seeks to display, artistically, the character of the animal being photographed. These shoots can be carried out in various locations, from studio to on-location. A lot of pet professional photographers have their own style and while some may shoot all sorts of animals, other photographers may specialize specific type of animals.

Here are 5 good reasons you can’t beat a working with a professional pet photographer.

1. You can’t replace knowledge and experience

Technological improvements have made high-quality photography equipment far more affordable for amateur photographers, but amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers not only have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices required to get the ideal shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You cannot beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s personality should shines through in the photos that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers take into account not only the character of your pet but also their lifestyle.

3. It cannot get any easier

Let the professional crawl around on the ground – or jump in the swimming pool – while you relax, unwind, and view the action unfold. You might just grab a couple of pointers to improve your pet photography abilitiy.

4. You can’t beat the efficiency

A professional pet photographer also has the know-how to snap the very best images in the least amount of time. They normally charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can participate in the fun

The majority of professional pet photographers these days aim to record the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued image that will definitely hang in a location of significance in your house for years to come.

Tips on picking a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you really should select someone who likes and is comfortable with your pet – somebody who dislikes cats, but loves dogs is not a great option to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not indicate your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Look for a photographer who has experience shooting your species of pet, make them understand what you’re searching for in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Explore a photographer’s site to see their previous work, and after that interview them prior to scheduling a consultation. Inquire about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make sure you feel totally at ease with the photographer prior to booking the actual shoot. If you don’t click with him or her, chances are your pet won’t either.

2. Decide on the deliverables

Discuss prior to the shoot with your pet photographer on what your objectives are for the photography session and exactly what you mean to do with the images. Interacting where and how you will utilize the images can help your photographer get the photographs that you are searching for and guarantee that the final deliverables fulfill your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors consider the comfort of your animal and attempt to arrange your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – normally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer needs on the shoot, you also assist to reduce the tension the photo shoot may trigger for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a favorite toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet images will be delivered digitally. The pet photographer will usually let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you therefore do not wind up paying for photos that you do not want to keep. Make certain to ask if the photographs will be provided untouched, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production retouch work (where the photographer remedies lighting, color grades or removes imperfections, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography prices will have to be set based on the type of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and ability required to get the shot for the client. Factors that will identify the cost will be experience, equipment, travel, hazards, environmental aspects and the specific customer requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others may charge by print. Discuss with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And be sure you discuss how they want to handle the photograph rights as buying full rights to the images will add to the final cost.

Search for a deal if you can. Professional pet photography can be pricey. If you have limited funds, keep your eye out for a discount. Many professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to draw in new customers; also specific times of year business may be slow for those both established and brand-new pet photographers. Always keep quality in mind and do your research prior to putting down any money, no matter how good the offer might sound.
