5 Reasons You Why You Should Consider Employing a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera equipment is fairly inexpensive, but amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a big difference to the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography ranges from portraits of domesticated animals (dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that make every effort to catch the appeal of animals (picture horse and equine photography) engaging in their natural or domestic environment.

Excellent pet photography seeks to display, artistically, the character of the animal being photographed. These shoots can be held in various places, from studio to on-location. The majority of pet photographers have their own style and while some may shoot all sorts of animals, other professional photographers may specialize specific type of pets.

Here are five great reasons that you cannot beat a hiring a professional pet photographer.

1. You can’t substitute for knowledge and experience

Technological advancements have actually made high-quality equipment a lot more affordable for amateur photographers, however amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers not only have the camera, lenses, and other equipment required to get the ideal shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You cannot beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s character can shines through in the photos that you take of him/her. The best pet photographers take into account not only the personality of your pet but also his/her way of life.

3. It cannot get any easier

Let the professional crawl around on the yard – or jump in the swimming pool – while you sit back, unwind, and enjoy the action unfold. You might just grab a couple of helpful hints to improve your pet photography abilitiy.

4. You cannot beat the effectiveness

A professional pet photographer will have the knowledge to snap the best images in the least amount of time. They generally charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can participate in the fun

The majority of professional pet photographers these days strive to record the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued photo that will undoubtedly hang in a place of importance in your home for many years to come.

Tips on choosing a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you really want to select someone who likes and is comfortable with your pet – someone who dislikes cats, but loves dogs is not a good choice to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs doesn’t mean your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Look for a photographer who has experience shooting your species of pet, let them know what you’re trying to get in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Check out a photographer’s website to see their previous work, and then interview them prior to scheduling a consultation. Inquire about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Ensure you feel totally at ease with the photographer before scheduling the actual shoot. If you do not click with him or her, chances are your pet won’t either.

2. Decide on the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your objectives are for the photography session and exactly what you mean to do with the images. Communicating where and how you will utilize the images can help your photographer get the shots that you are trying to achieve and make sure that the final deliverables fulfill your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors consider the comfort of your animal and aim to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – usually late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer requires on the shoot, you also assist to reduce the stress the photo shoot may cause for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a preferred toy or other pet item. And in all cases, bring treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet photos will be provided digitally. The pet photographer will normally let you preview the proofs so you can determine your favorite photographs and you for that reason do not wind up paying for photos that you don’t want. Make certain to ask if the photographs will be delivered unedited, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production touch up work (where the photographer corrects lighting, color grades or gets rid of imperfections, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography pricing will have to be set based on the kind of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and ability required to get the shot for the customer. Elements that will figure out the price will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental elements and the specific customer requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others may charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how it breaks down. And make sure you discuss how they would like to manage the photograph rights as acquiring complete rights to the images will add to the final cost.

Try to find a deal if you can. Professional pet photography can be costly. If you have limited funds, keep your eye out for a discount. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to draw in new clients; also certain times of year business may be slow for those both established and new pet photographers. However, always keep quality in mind and do your research prior to putting down any cash, no matter how great the offer might sound.
