1. Find a specialist photographer

When choosing a pet photographer, you actually should select somebody who enjoys and is comfortable with your pet – someone who is allergic to cats, but likes dogs is not a good option to photograph Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not imply your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Look for a photographer who has experience shooting your type of pet, let them know exactly what you’re searching for in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Check out a photographer’s site to see their previous work, and after that interview him or her prior to scheduling a consultation. Ask about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Ensure you feel comfortable with the photographer before booking the actual shoot. If you don’t click with him or her, chances are your pet will not either.

2. Decide on the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your goals are for the photography session and exactly what you mean to do with the images. Interacting where and how you will use the images can assist your photographer get the images that you are looking for and ensure that the final deliverables satisfy your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors think about the comfort of your pet and try to arrange your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – normally late afternoon. By decreasing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer requires on the shoot, you also assist to decrease the stress the photo shoot might cause for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a preferred toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography shoot

Most pet images will be provided digitally. The pet photographer will usually let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you for that reason don’t end up paying for photos that you do not want to keep. Be sure to ask if the photographs will be delivered unedited, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production touch up work (where the photographer remedies lighting, color grades or gets rid of blemishes, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography rates will have to be set based upon the kind of photography (studio or in the field) required and the level of equipment and ability required to get the shot for the customer. Aspects that will identify the cost will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental aspects and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others might charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And make sure to discuss how they would like to manage the photograph rights as purchasing full rights to the images will add to the final cost.

Look for a special offer if you can. Professional pet photography can be costly. If you have limited funds, keep your eye out for seasonal special offers. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to draw in new clients; also particular times of year business may be sluggish for those both developed and brand-new pet photographers. However, always keep quality in mind and do your due diligence before putting down any money, no matter how good the deal might sound.
