5 Reasons You Why You Should Consider Employing a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera equipment is relatively inexpensive, but amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a huge difference to the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography ranges from portraits of domesticated animals (dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that strive to record the charm of animals (think horse and equine photography) interacting in their natural or domestic environment.

Great pet photography seeks to display, artistically, the character of the animal being photographed. These shoots can be held in various locations, from studio to on-location. Most pet photographers have their own style and while some might shoot all sorts of animals, certain professional photographers may specialize specific type of pets.

Here are 5 excellent reasons why you cannot beat a hiring a professional pet photographer.

1. You can’t substitute for knowledge and experience

Technological developments have actually made premium photography equipment far more affordable for amateur photographers, but amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers don’t just have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices needed to get the ideal shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You cannot beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s character should shines through in the pictures that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers take into consideration not only the character of your pet but also his/her way of life.

3. You cannot beat the ease

Let the professional crawl around on the lawn – or jump in the pool – while you sit back, unwind, and view the action unfold. You may just grab a few helpful hints to improve your pet shooting abilitiy.

4. You cannot beat the effectiveness

A professional pet photographer will have the know-how to snap the best images in the least amount of time. They usually charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can participate in the fun

A lot of professional pet photographers nowadays aim to catch the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued picture that will definitely hang in a place of importance in your home for many years to come.

Tips on picking a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you truly should pick somebody who likes and is comfortable with your pet – someone who is allergic to cats, but enjoys dogs is not a good choice to photograph Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs doesn’t indicate your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Look for a photographer who has experience shooting your species of pet, make them understand what you’re looking for in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Explore a photographer’s website to see their previous work, then interview him or her prior to scheduling a consultation. Ask about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make sure you feel totally at ease with the photographer prior to scheduling the actual shoot. If you do not click with him or her, odds are your pet won’t either.

2. Choose the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your objectives are for the photography session and what you plan to do with the photos. Communicating where and how you will use the images can help your photographer get the images that you are searching for and ensure that the final deliverables satisfy your expectations.

3. Scheduling the session

When shooting outdoors consider the comfort of your pet and aim to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – generally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer needs on the shoot, you also assist to lower the tension the photo shoot might cause for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a preferred toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet images will be delivered digitally. The pet photographer will generally let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you for that reason do not end up paying for pictures that you don’t want. Make certain to ask if the photographs will be delivered untouched, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production touch up work (where the photographer corrects lighting, color grades or removes imperfections, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography pricing will need to be set based upon the kind of photography (studio or in the field) required and the level of equipment and ability required to get the shot for the client. Elements that will identify the cost will be experience, equipment, travel, hazards, environmental elements and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others may charge by print. Discuss with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And be sure to discuss how they want to handle the photograph rights as purchasing complete rights to the images will add to the cost.

Search for a deal if you can. Professional pet photography can be costly. If you have limited funds, keep your eye out for a discount. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to bring in new clients; also specific times of year business might be slow for those both established and new pet photographers. Always keep quality in mind and do your due diligence before putting down any cash, no matter how good the deal might sound.
