Most professional pet photographers nowadays strive to capture the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a treasured picture that will surely hang in a location of significance in your home for many years to come.

Tips on selecting a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When choosing a pet photographer, you truly should choose someone who enjoys and is comfortable with your pet – somebody who is allergic to cats, but enjoys dogs is not a great option to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not indicate your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Seek out a photographer who has experience shooting your type of pet, make them understand exactly what you’re trying to get in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to check for experience and style compatibility.

Check out a photographer’s website to see their previous work, then interview them prior to making a consultation. Inquire about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make certain you feel comfortable with the photographer before booking the actual shoot. If you don’t click with them, odds are your pet will not either.

2. Choose the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your goals are for the photography session and exactly what you plan to do with the photos. Interacting where and how you will utilize the images can assist your photographer get the photos that you’re trying to achieve and make sure that the final deliverables satisfy your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors consider the comfort of your animal and aim to arrange your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – generally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer needs on the shoot, you also help to decrease the tension the photo shoot may trigger for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a preferred toy or other pet item. And in all cases, bring treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet pictures will be provided digitally. The pet photographer will usually let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you for that reason do not end up paying for pictures that you don’t want to keep. Be sure to ask if the photographs will be delivered untouched, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production touch up work (where the photographer fixes lighting, color grades or gets rid of imperfections, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography rates will need to be set based on the kind of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and skill needed to get the shot for the client. Factors that will identify the rate will be experience, equipment, travel, threats, environmental aspects and the specific customer requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others might charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And be sure to discuss how they want to handle the photograph rights as purchasing complete rights to the images will add to the cost.

Look for a deal if you can. Professional pet photography can be pricey. If you have restricted funds, keep your eye out for seasonal special offers. Many professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to draw in new clients; also specific times of year business may be sluggish for those both established and new pet photographers. Always keep quality in mind and do your research prior to putting down any loan, no matter how excellent the deal might sound.
