5 Reasons You Why You Ought to Consider Hiring a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera gear is fairly inexpensive, however amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a huge difference in the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography ranges from portraits of domesticated animals (pet dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that aim to capture the appeal of animals (think horse and equine photography) interacting in their natural or domestic environment.

High quality pet photography seeks to display, artistically, the character of the creature being photographed. These shoots can be carried out in different places, from studio to on-location. A lot of pet photographers have their own style and while some may shoot all sorts of animals, certain photographers prefer to specialize particular type of pets.

Here are five great reasons that you can’t beat a hiring a professional pet photographer.

1. You cannot replace knowledge and experience

Technological advancements have made high-quality equipment far more affordable for amateur photographers, however amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers not only have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices required to get the best shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You can’t beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s character should shines through in the pictures that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers think about not only the personality of your pet but also his/her lifestyle.

3. It cannot get any easier

Let the professional crawl around on the grass – or jump in the swimming pool – while you relax, unwind, and enjoy the action unfold. You might also grab a couple of pointers to improve your own pet photography skills.

4. You can’t beat the effectiveness

A professional pet photographer also has the know-how to snap the very best images in the least amount of time. They generally charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can join in the fun

The majority of professional pet photographers these days strive to catch the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued photo that will definitely hang in a place of significance in your home for several years to come.

Tips on choosing a professional pet photographer

1. Find a specialist photographer

When selecting a pet photographer, you truly want to select someone who enjoys and is comfortable with your pet – someone who dislikes cats, but enjoys dogs is not a good choice to shoot Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs doesn’t suggest your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Seek out a photographer who has experience shooting your species of pet, let them know exactly what you’re trying to get in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to look for experience and style compatibility.

Explore a photographer’s website to see their previous work, then interview him or her prior to making an appointment. Ask about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make sure you feel comfortable with the photographer prior to scheduling the actual shoot. If you don’t click with them, chances are your pet will not either.

2. Decide on the deliverables

Discuss prior to the shoot with your pet photographer on what your objectives are for the photography session and what you plan to do with the images. Communicating where and how you will utilize the images can help your photographer get the shots that you’re searching for and guarantee that the final deliverables meet your expectations.

3. Scheduling the shoot

When shooting outdoors consider the comfort of your pet and attempt to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – normally late afternoon. By reducing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer requires on the shoot, you also help to lower the tension the photo shoot might trigger for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a favorite toy or other pet item. And in all cases, bring treats with you.

4. After the photography session

Most pet pictures will be delivered digitally. The pet photographer will typically let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you for that reason don’t end up paying for photographs that you don’t want. Be sure to ask if the photographs will be delivered unedited, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production retouch work (where the photographer fixes lighting, color grades or removes blemishes, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography prices will need to be set based upon the kind of photography (studio or in the field) needed and the level of equipment and skill needed to get the shot for the client. Aspects that will determine the price will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental aspects and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others might charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And make sure to discuss how they wish to handle the photograph rights as purchasing complete rights to the images will add to the final cost.

Try to find a special offer if you can. Professional pet photography can be pricey. If you have restricted funds, keep your eye out for a discount. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and want to draw in new customers; also certain times of year business might be slow for those both developed and new pet photographers. However, always keep quality in mind and do your due diligence before putting down any loan, no matter how great the deal might sound.
