5 Reasons You Why You Should Consider Employing a Professional Pet Photographer

Sure, camera equipment is reasonably low in cost, but amateurs are still amateurs. Here’s how a professional can make a big difference to the end results of your pet photography.

Pet photography ranges from photographs of domesticated animals (dogs to cats to birds) to more editorial type shots that strive to capture the appeal of animals (picture horse and equine photography) connecting in their natural or domestic environment.

Excellent pet photography seeks to show, artistically, the character of the creature being photographed. These shoots can be held in different places, from studio to on-location. A lot of pet professional photographers have their own style and while some might shoot all sorts of animals, other professional photographers prefer to specialize particular kinds of animals.

Here are five excellent reasons you cannot beat a hiring a professional pet photographer.

1. You can’t substitute for knowledge and experience

Technological developments have made premium photography equipment a lot more affordable for amateur photographers, but amateurs are still amateurs. Professional photographers don’t just have the camera, lenses, and other complimentary devices needed to get the ideal shot, they have the training and experience to do so too.

2. You cannot beat the imagination of a professional pet photographer

Your pet’s personality should shines through in the photos that you take of him/her. The very best pet photographers consider not only the personality of your pet but also his/her lifestyle.

3. You cannot beat the ease

Let the professional crawl around on the yard – or jump in the swimming pool – while you sit back, unwind, and enjoy the action unfold. You may also pick up a few helpful hints to improve your own pet shooting skills.

4. You cannot beat the end-result

A professional pet photographer will have the knowledge to snap the very best images in the least amount of time. They usually charge by the hour and have no desire to waste their time or yours.

5. You can participate in the fun

The majority of professional pet photographers nowadays make every effort to record the bond between you and your pet, resulting in a valued picture that will surely hang in a place of significance in your home for several years to come.

Tips on choosing a professional pet photographer

1. Look for a specialist photographer

When picking a pet photographer, you truly should choose somebody who enjoys and is comfortable with your pet – someone who dislikes cats, but enjoys dogs is not a good choice to photograph Kitty. By the same token, a love of dogs does not indicate your photographer is comfortable or has experience shooting horse photography in an arena. Seek out a photographer who has experience shooting your type of pet, make them understand exactly what you’re searching for in your pet shoot, and check out their online portfolio to look for experience and style compatibility.

Check out a photographer’s site to see their previous work, and then interview him or her prior to making a consultation. Inquire about the creative process and how the actual session will unfold. Make sure you feel comfortable with the photographer prior to scheduling the actual shoot. If you don’t click with them, chances are your pet will not either.

2. Determine the deliverables

Discuss before the shoot with your pet photographer on what your objectives are for the photography session and exactly what you mean to do with the images. Communicating where and how you plan to utilize the photos can help your photographer get the shots that you’re searching for and ensure that the final deliverables satisfy your expectations.

3. Scheduling the session

When shooting outdoors think about the comfort of your pet and attempt to schedule your shoot with favorable lighting conditions – normally late afternoon. By minimizing the amount of equipment and lighting your photographer requires on the shoot, you also help to decrease the stress the photo shoot may trigger for your animal. When shooting in a studio, bring a favorite toy or other pet item. And in all cases, take treats with you.

4. After the photography shoot

Most pet pictures will be provided digitally. The pet photographer will generally let you preview the proofs so you can identify your preferred photographs and you therefore don’t end up paying for photos that you don’t want. Make certain to ask if the photographs will be delivered unedited, or will the photographer use photographic software to do some post-production touch up work (where the photographer fixes lighting, color grades or eliminates blemishes, etc from the photos).

Just how much does Pet Photography cost?

Animal photography rates will need to be set based on the type of photography (studio or in the field) required and the level of equipment and skill required to get the shot for the client. Aspects that will identify the cost will be experience, equipment, travel, risks, environmental aspects and the specific client requirements. Some photographer will charge per session and others may charge by print. Communicate with the photographer about their pay structure and how they break it down. And make sure you discuss how they would like to manage the photograph rights as buying full rights to the images will add to the final cost.

Search for a special offer if you can. Professional pet photography can be pricey. If you have limited funds, keep your eye out for seasonal special offers. A lot of professional photographers are moving into pet photography and wish to bring in new customers; also specific times of year business might be sluggish for those both established and brand-new pet photographers. However, always keep quality in mind and do your due diligence prior to putting down any cash, no matter how excellent the deal might sound.
