Helpful Tips for Choosing the Right Photographer for your Event

Are you in need of an event photographer to photograph your next business conference, cocktail party, wedding, or business retreat? If you’ve just recently begun looking for one, you’re probably realizing what an overwhelming job it can be, as there are countless photographers to pick from. Here are some tips to keep in mind when choosing your next event photographer.

Decide how much you want to spend|your budget}.
This is the primary step in limiting your options for a professional event photographer. When deciding your budget, remember the timing of your occasion. Is it a four-hour cocktail party or a five-day conference? If you’re on a very tight budget, you may need to think about employing a friend or family hobbyist to photograph your event. If you choose this route don’t expect to get the best results if you choose not to hire a professional event photographer who brings both expertise and experience.

Choose your photographic style.
Exactly what are these images going to be used for? Most events are being photographed for historic events, to record a general catalog of the occasion participants, speakers, and entertainment. This typically also consists of the traditional positioned, smiling shots which are great to have as keepsakes of your event. If you’re going to be utilizing the images for other purposes such as marketing collateral for use in web sites and pamphlets, then you might want to have the photographer shoot in a somewhat alternative, more commercialized way.

Ask family and friends for references.
Word of mouth can still be one of the best methods to find well-respected professional photographers near you. If you do end up contacting a photographer that was referred to you, make sure to mention your connection when you introduce yourself. You never know, you might even get a discount for being a referral.

Browse online and read online ratings.
Now it’s time to check out Google. Inspect customer ratings to make sure the photographer has a really good track record. Also, take a look at the photographer’s web site to get a feel for who they are and their normal photographic style. If they have a poorly looking web site you’ll want to proceed with caution as they may not be as knowledgeable as other event photographers in the area.

Check out their portfolio before hiring them.
Nowadays the majority of photographers have at least a portion of their portfolio on their web site, making it super simple to examine their previous work. You can always ask if they have other samples of work or a album of photographs to browse if that makes you more comfortable. When looking at their portfolio, keep in mind the kinds of shots they take, how well they photograph the event venues, as well as how vibrant they can be with their photography.

Find out about their experience of photographing events of approximately the same size as the one you are planning.
Let them know the number of people you are anticipating at your event, and ask if they have much experience handling events of this size. Ask what they thought was challenging and/or fascinating about working an event of that size. Feel them out to make sure they can manage your event comfortably. Pay attention to any issues they may have.

Get a feel for the types of events they are more experienced with.
If you’re thinking about working with a professional photographer for your event, you’ll need to be sure they have at least some experience handling comparable events. If you’re preparing for a business leadership summit and they have just covered weddings and family events, they might not be the perfect fit for your event. Their portfolio should tell you enough for you to determine this, however if not, simply inquire how many similar events they have covered.

Ask how quickly they can deliver the images.
Sadly, many professional photographers may take great images, but when it comes down to delivering hard copy images or retouching digital images, they take too long to complete the job. This is why it is crucial that you ask your photographer how soon they can develop your photos or re-touch your digital images. It’s best to get this answer in writing to secure your investment.

Make certain you have excellent rapport with your photographer.
Lastly, it’s important that you feel a good chemistry between yourself and your photographer given that you will be dealing with them throughout your event. Do you trust the photographer’s artistic skills? Are they easy to talk to and do they freely address all your concerns? Remember they will also be connecting with your event’s attendees on some level, so you’ll want to make sure they are generally a friendly individual with good social skills. Once you have addressed all the above details, it’s time to employ your photographer!

Meet prior to the event and review expectations.
Now that you have decided on your photographer, you must prepare to meet them prior to the event so that you can review your expectations along with any specifics you want them to cover. For example, let them know if you would like them to take photos of the event location before your guests show up. also, tell them where the VIP visitors will be so that they can get plenty of photographs of this group at your event. Provide a run-down of the event schedule so they understand all the primary aspects to photograph.
